Homemade Food: How can Healthier be Easier
In our modern world, most of us want to eat more healthily but lack the time to cook. We can easily grab a quick snack, a protein bar, or order delivery. But the thing is... These processed foods usually contain high amounts of sugars, oils, and saturated fats that are highly inflammatory. Now I hear you, "I don't have time to make homemade meals and cook." Not everyone is Nara Smith, and many of us are career queens, so here is the catch : cooking and actually taking time to prepare your food can be deeply therapeutic.
Find peace in the process
The trick is to see this food prepping as a sacred time for you and your body. I now have 2 options for you: Batch Cooking and Quick Recipes. The first one allows you to set a unique time to prep everything in advance and only assemble before eating. Be aware that batch cooking usually takes two hours if you want to prepare meals for the whole week. But the great part is, you "only" have to fit those two sacred hours in your weekly calendar, knowing all of this will only benefit you! If you don't like cooking, I recommend listening to a podcast or a great playlist while doing so. You'll see it will be fun! The second option is to only prepare super quick recipes that are healthy and yummy. It can be a bit tricky, but there are some great cookbooks where you can find inspiration. Here is one I personally love: The Well Plated Everyday, by the amazing Erin Clarke. If you're choosing this option, I would still recommend planning your recipes ahead of the week so you can buy everything in advance. If you're missing things and have to run to the store everyday, you might end up getting "a quick little something" for dinner, and that's what we're avoiding here.
Sharing is caring, and food is a great way to connect. If you're sharing this will to eat healthier and actually cook with someone else, it will actually be easier to stick to it. Whether it's your partner, your sister, your grandma or your flatmate, finding a person and sharing this goal is a great way to make it more mindful, fun and simple. This also applies when it's about choosing your recipes for the upcoming week! Inspiration comes more easily when more minds are put to work. Except if one of you is a picky eater... In any case, you might even see your relationship evolve in a great way by implementing this together!
Make it a challenge for 3 weeks
Implementing a new habit is never easy, and that's why putting this in the form of a challenge makes it way easier! Set a minimum of 2 weeks (we recommend 3). Make it fun; it's only a challenge. Taking this as a game will take away this pressure and/or guilt that often comes with these kinds of changes. You'll see, at the end of these few weeks, you'll have gotten used to it and it will almost be natural for you to function this way. You'll feel way better, in your mind and body. It's a virtous circle so go for it and, don't forget, it's also important to live fully. If you crave these sushis on a sunday night, go for it ! It will not destroy the efforts you put in !
So... Are you in? Send us photos of your homemade meals on Instagram, we would love tot see them
